Short but great: the Pontirone canyon
The beautiful and challenging gorge deep in the Ticino granite offers a fantastic canyoning experience in a cave-like setting.
The lower section of the Pontirone Gorge at Biasca, with about one and a half hours in the actual gorge, is comparatively short, but a real natural wonder and one of the most impressive canyons of Ticino, often called the little sister of the legendary Lodrino Canyon. The tour starts with some exciting climbing passages between impressively huge granite blocks. Soon it goes over a 40-meter high waterfall hanging on the rope in the deep cracks of the canyon. It follows a cave-like canyon landscape of rare beauty, combined with great jumps and challenging abseiling – including a winding rocky channel full of rushing water. The finale is a section that has never seen the sun.
